Amyloid Mechanism and Disease Center
Connecting Researchers Across Departments
I am creating a new Rice center called the Amyloid Mechanism and Disease Center (or simply, the Amyloid Center), which is supported by three years of funding from my start-up package.
The goal of the center is to bring together Rice faculty and students working on amyloids or amyloidogenic proteins in any capacity. Our focus spans neurodevelopment, neuronal function, and neurodegeneration, as well as materials research and the emerging roles of amyloids in cancer. The center is inclusive and aims to connect protein biophysics with biochemistry and cell biology to foster synergy and collaboration across disciplines. Whether you are deeply engaged in amyloid research or simply curious to learn more, or if you have expertise in a technique that could be useful, you are welcome to join.
The center will launch in January 2026 with a kickoff event, followed by an external seminar series with invited speakers and internal faculty colloquia designed to help us get to know one another. Additional activities and funding opportunities will be developed based on the interests of the community.
If you’d like to become affiliated with the center and receive updates on events, including the January kickoff, please click below to sign up.
